The Sleeping Beauty |
Surprisingly good (I'm not crazy about full-length ballets). |

2/25/01 |
A Midsummer Night's Dream |
Also surprisingly good. Bottom completely stole the show. I was worried when the curtain went up and people were wearing more or less modern clothing. |

Five Tangos |
PNB |
Repertory program; skipped out berfore "Fearful Symmetries" (despite the great title) because the music was described (in the program!) as "turgid." |

Spinning Into Butter |
Seattle Rep |
Good, although not quite what I expected. |

Art |
Seattle Rep |
I'd seen it on Broadway when we were there for Adam & Michelle's wedding. Liked it just as much in Seattle. Starred two long-time Seattle-favorite actors: John Proccocino and Lawrence Ballard. |

Le Corsaire |
PNB |
Also something by Kevin O'Day, a great choreographer |
| 7 |
6/9/01 |
Mercury |
PNB |
Also something by Val Canipoli, choreographer of Lambarena. This was an absolutely fantastic night of ballet, although I once again skipped the last one, because I doubted it could live up to the previous three. |

Treading Water |
Seattle International Film Festival (Egyptian Theatre) |
Film starring a highschool aquaintance. The film is excellent, and Angie was very good! |

Mariners vs. Angels |
Some might call an M's game a "cultural event". |

Safeco Field |

Treasures from a Lost Civilization: Ancient Chinese Art from Sichuan |
Really pretty amazing. |

Das Rheingold |
My first exposure to Wagner's Ring Cycle, and only about my 3rd time seeing a professional opera company. I enjoyed it, and it helped me to understand what I'm supposed to be doing with my singing, but I'm not sure I'd want to sit through 17.5 hours of the full cycle. Monica says that next time I must bring opera glasses so I can watch the sopranos spit. Lovely! |
|
| 13 | 9/7/01 | Mariners vs. Baltimore | Safeco Field | Cal Ripkin's last series at Safeco. And we actually won a game that I attended, for once. I was beginning to feel like a jinx. |
| 14 | 9/29/01 | Subscribers' Choice | PNB | Great repertory production of many audience favorites. Very interesting transitions between them, at times. When the curtain rose on a heavily tu-tu'ed and tiara'ed ballet following a very modern one with industrial music, the audience laughed. |
| 15 | 9/30/01 | A Servant of Two Masters | Intiman Theater | I usually hate farce, so why am I a sucker for Commedia del Arte and Moliere and the like? Lots of good throwing of objects. |
| 16 | 10/7/01 | Another American, Asking and Telling | Seattle Rep | Excellent one-man play taken from interviews with members of the military, military families, etc. |
| 17 | 10/13/01 | Sing-along Sound of Music | Portland, OR. | Like group therapy. In a good way. |
| 18 | 10/22/01 | Groundwork 2001: REM, Pearl Jam, Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn, Alanis Morisette, Mana | Key Arena | Truly outstanding concert, except for Alanis. I wondered why Pearl Jam wasn't the closing act, this being Seattle and all; but once REM took the stage, there was really no question that it had to be them. Michael Stipe was very engaged with the audience, and "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" was an incredibly cathartic moment. |
| 19 | 11/4/01 | Proof | Seattle Rep | Excellent math play. Really, surprisingly good. Similar to "Dangerous Mind," I think, but focused on the crazy mathematician's daughter. |
| 20 | 11/17/01 | Don Quixote | PNB | Good. I usually get bored at full-length ballets, and I actually skipped the traditional wedding in the 3rd act, but I enjoyed the first two acts. |
| 21 | 11/18/01 | Studio Recital | Waldorf School | My first recital. I survived. |
| 22 | 11/25/01 | The Beard of Avon | Seattle Rep | Play about who really was the author of Shakespeare's plays. Quite amusing. |
| 23 | 12/2/01 | Inspecting Carol | Seattle Rep | A small, regional theatre fears the loss of its NEA funding as it puts on its traditional production of "A Christmas Carol." |
| 24 | 12/8/01 | Luminaria (or "Pathway of Lights") | Greenlake | As always, most of the lights were extinguished by rain by the time we arrived. Still, the dogs enjoy the walk. |
| 25 | 12/13/01 | Christmas Show | Radio City Music Hall | Quite the spectacle. I guess I mean that in a good way. |
| 26 | 12/15/01 | Forbidden Broadway 2001: A Spoof Odyssey | Off-Broadway | Spoofs the current offerings on Broadway. I guess it's updated annually, for the last 18 years. Pretty amusing. If you don't have time to see more than one show, see them all at this one. |
| 27 | 12/19/01 | Nutcracker | PNB | First time I've seen it since I was little. The "new" sets and costumes by Maurice Sendak are fantastic. |
