Question Two: if clams fall in the forest, is it still a clam bake?
This was probably the 9th annual clambake in this time-slot (although we have been doing clambakes in general for years), but this was the first year that there weren't really any clams to eat. Maybe we got cocky after last year ran so smoothly.
All we heard from the deck below--after the clams slipped off the stump that has been used for that purpose from time immemorial--was, "Well, this is the year!"

Stephanie and Shrimpy, pre-disaster. Shrimpy and Nootka had their best clambake ever...possibly because they were able to lick quite a lot of clam nectar out of the dirt.
